Most of you know by now that The Rock will be at Survivor Series this year which emanates from Madison Square Garden in New York City. I’ve been hyped about his comeback at Survivor Series for months now, but things seem to have taken a very interesting turn lately, some of which suggest that The Rock may actually be wrestling alongside John Cena on the show. Plus, is this the official poster for the big event? Check it out after the jump. WWE.com seem to have confirmed that The Rock and John Cena will be teaming-up in a classic 5-on-5 Tag Team Match at the show, which means that we’ll probably have to go through the typical “John Cena Tag-Teams With His Mortal Enemy” scenario right up to WrestleMania 28.
Here’s what WWE.com posted : “WWE sources have confirmed that The Rock and John Cena will be a part of a Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Tag Team Match.”
And here’s what The Rock said via Twitter : “I’m not waiting til Wrestlemania 28… I’m coming to Survivor Series in November and ELECTRIFYING New York City like never before! TEAM BRING IT – BOOTS TO ASSES.”
I’m a huge fan of the Attitude Era. Anyone who has read my blog posts knows that. I literally marked-out when The Rock made an epic return earlier this year. And yeah, I’m open to seeing him wrestle before WrestleMania 28. It would have been perfect if they had held back till the big event next year, but The Rock returning to in-ring action has its upsides. For one, The Rock can shake-off the ring rust (if there is any) and get into the vibe again. Plus, any mistakes WWE Creative makes with him can be rectified by doing some trial runs, and believe me, they’re capable of f**king things up to the core so trial runs are good in this case.
What I don’t like though, is this whole ‘teaming-up’ business. And I hate announcements that come this early because I’ve always been a fan of kayfabe and I believe it needs to be there for wrestling to survive. We have Vengeance and Hell In A Cell to pass before heading into Survivor Series, but with this announcement we can pretty much guess how things are going to turn out at each show.
And there’s no realconfirmation that The Rock WILL wrestle, which is going to piss a lot of people off now if he doesn’t.
One final rant before I end this post. Why does The Rock look like that on the poster? Sometimes I feel like R-Truth in the sense that I think all this is one big conspiracy. C-O-N-S—-piracy! How is it that John Cena looks all mighty and rugged whereas The Rock looks like his photo was snapped midway during a conversation between him and the cameraman? He looks half-surprised and half-confused; an expression he’d don if this were the poster for The Tooth Fairy 2.
Sometimes I wonder if WWE does these things on purpose just to give Cena that extra edge in terms of marketing. Hey, they pulled that crap before when Shawn Michaels was battling Bret Hart in the 90′s, making Shawn look like the younger, better wrestler, so don’t think they wouldn’t pull it again! Remember, John Cena is their golden-boy and is in his early 30′s whereas The Rock (as awesome as he is) will be a month away from being 40 by the time WrestleMania 28 gets here and isn’t going to be an active superstar on Raw or SmackDown!…ever! In terms of business, WWE has to to give Cena all the upsides he can get.
